Meet Our Youth Staff

pastor julie kim

Pastor Julie has been serving at New Vision Church since 2018, but her history with NVC goes as far back as 2001. PJ moved to NVC (formerly Korean First Baptist Church) when she was entering high school. It was during her time in the youth where God began cultivating her heart for the younger generation.

As PJ has been serving as a youth pastor for more than 10 years now, her reason to serve the youth ministry has stayed the same: to have the Gospel of Jesus Christ become reality. The most formative years in shaping one's identity and purpose begin in middle school and into high school. She desires for the next generation to not only have a personal relationship with Jesus that is rooted in the Word, but to cultivate a growing fellowship with the Father and with His children, the Church. Her vision is that our youth group is known for loving Jesus through the way that we worship Him and through the way that we love one another.

nathan oh - worship director

Nathan Oh’s history with NVC started with serving at the 2022 Youth Summer Retreat; and starting mid-July 2023, he has been working half-time as the Youth Worship Director.

Seeing the world's perversion of God's word and His truths, God has pulled him to serve here at NVC Youth. Specifically, he believes that singing is one of God's many gifts to us as a means to: glorify Him, teach and admonish one another, and have the word of Christ dwell richly in our souls.

He prays that God will grow NVC Youth will do exactly that as we sing together in church and in our homes. He also prays God will use him and the other Praise team/Tech team members to magnify His name through the combination of His word and music -- to motivate the church to sing, to remind them to cherish God, and to be empowered to live for God's glory.

sarah jang - care administrator

Sarah started serving as the Care Administrator since 2022. However, she has been serving the Youth Ministry since 2018 and attended NVC as a youth herself.

Sarah’s heart for the youth started after she came back to NVC in college. Having had a difficult experience in this youth group herself, her desire to care for the students who are struggling grew with every retreat and event. Post-college, the primary reason she joined the team was to provide students with a safe space to let their voices be heard. To let them know that it is normal to have doubts and fears, and rather than bury them, to learn how to talk about them in a healthy, God-centered manner. She also (surprisingly!) enjoys doing administrative tasks.

She desires for the Gospel truth to be known in every student’s heart - to know that while we were still sinners, Jesus chose to die for us on that cross because He loved us. We are so, so precious in our Heavenly Father’s eyes. The joy of being fully known, yet fully loved is something that she desires for all of our students to experience in their lives. She also prays that as this truth becomes a reality for the students, that they will learn to love others in their community out of an overflow of the love they receive from the Lord.

jayson yi - events coordinator

Jayson Yi has been serving at New Vision Church since the beginning of 2023. He first attended the church during the Summer of 2022 and found an opportunity to serve the Youth as the Fellowship Coordinator. He came to NVC after graduating from UCSB while looking for a new home church. It was throughout the first few weeks at New Vision where he found his place within the welcoming community and a heart to serve the Youth Ministry.

Growing up a big part of Jayson's life was at church and growing up with his friends. A large part of his growth with his friends and his faith was during his Youth Group days. After graduating from college and coming to New Vision and finding the opportunity to serve during a Friday night event he found the heart to truly serve the Youth so that they can also experience what he felt and went through during his Youth days. Being able to bond with one's peers while also forming a mentor relationship with those older than them, Jayson wants to be able to bring this to the Youth and be someone that they can rely on while also having a great time!

His vision for the youth group is for all of the Youth to find the importance of having a community where you can share your faith, create everlasting friendships, and be able to spend time in worship together.
